Category: History of The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon contains writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent, beginning about six hundred years before the birth of Jesus Christ. The book is another testament of Jesus Christ, showing how his gospel was taught and lived on the American continent before and after his birth.

The Book of Mormon was written on metal plates, and hidden by Moroni, the last of the Nephite prophets. In September, 1823, that same Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith as a resurrected being and told Joseph about the plates, which were hidden in a hill near Joseph’s home in Palmyra, New York. Joseph Smith translated the record by the gift and power of God, then published the record as the Book of Mormon in 1830.

The writings in this category discuss the history of the Book of Mormon, which includes Joseph Smith’s work in translating the record and its publication.
